Forty-nine people died in northern Niger after their vehicle broke down and left them stranded without water in the Sahara Desert. Only two survivors managed to escape the tragedy by walking more than 50 kilometers on foot through the desert until they reached a water source and eventually made it to the nearest town of Assamakka, where they alerted authorities. The incident highlights the deadly risks faced by travelers crossing the harsh Saharan terrain, where vehicle breakdowns can quickly turn fatal due to extreme temperatures and lack of water sources.
