Slovak President Calls for Reformed European Union in May Day Address

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini used his May Day address to advocate for a stronger European Union while simultaneously delivering criticism toward Brussels. Pellegrini argued that a respected European Union would translate to a respected Slovakia, emphasizing the interconnected nature of the country's standing with that of the broader bloc. However, the president also sent a critical message to EU leadership, stating that the European Union stands at a crossroads and requires what he termed "common sense politics." Pellegrini called for the EU to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy as part of broader reforms needed for the union's future effectiveness.
