Slovak Nationalist Party Opposes Ukraine's EU Membership, Demands Guarantee from Prime Minister

Share:

The Slovak National Party (SNS), a member of the ruling coalition, announced it will demand assurances from Prime Minister Robert Fico that Slovakia will never vote in favor of Ukraine's accession to the European Union. SNS leader Andrej Danko said he wants Fico to guarantee that Slovakia will oppose any acceptance of Ukraine into the EU bloc. The stance reflects divisions within Slovakia over EU enlargement and support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia. SNS is a nationalist party that forms part of Fico's governing coalition alongside his Smer-SD party and Hlas-SD, and has previously taken pro-Russian positions on various issues.
