Hungary's new parliament elected Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza party, as the country's new prime minister during its inaugural session on Saturday. The vote saw 140 members of the Tisza party support Magyar's appointment, with one abstention and 54 votes against. Crowds gathered at Kossuth Square outside parliament celebrated the election of the new premier, who replaced Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power. This marks the first time since 1990 that Orbán is not serving in a leadership role in Hungarian politics. Magyar has promised to address Hungary's past and pursue a new direction for the country.
