Survey Finds Many Young People Dreading Family Vacations Due to Lack of Personal Space
Family holidays are increasingly a source of stress rather than relaxation for many young people, who struggle with the loss of personal space and solitude that comes from spending extended time with relatives. A survey by insurance company Uniqa found that the average Czech feels they have had "enough" of their family four times a month during a typical year. One in twenty respondents reported feeling overwhelmed by family contact on a daily basis, with younger people experiencing this feeling more frequently than older generations. The findings highlight a growing tension between the traditional idea of the family holiday as a bonding experience and the modern need — particularly among younger adults — for personal boundaries and time alone, even while on vacation.
