Slovakia refuses to support UN migration governance declaration

Share:

Slovakia will not support a declaration on progress in migration governance at an upcoming United Nations conference. The country's position continues its 2018 stance when it rejected the UN Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, a non-binding international agreement aimed at improving cooperation on migration issues. Slovakia was among several European Union members that opposed the compact, citing concerns about national sovereignty over migration policy and potential obligations to accept more migrants.
