Slovak Prime Minister Fico Still Expected to Attend Moscow Victory Day Celebrations

Russian officials continue to count on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico attending Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, though Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák will not accompany him this time. The Government Office has not yet released the list of delegation members who will travel with Fico to the anniversary commemorations. Fico, leader of the ruling social-democratic Smer-SD party, has maintained closer ties with Russia compared to previous Slovak governments, making his potential attendance at the May 9 Victory Day celebrations—which commemorate the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany—politically significant given ongoing tensions over Russia's war in Ukraine.
