UK Parliament Passes Cigarette Sales Ban for People Born After 2008

The British Parliament has approved legislation banning cigarette sales to anyone born after January 1, 2009, in a landmark move to create a smoke-free generation. The law aims to prevent people born after this date from ever legally purchasing cigarettes, effectively raising the minimum purchase age progressively each year. Once implemented, the legislation will also grant the government authority to expand smoking restrictions from indoor spaces to selected outdoor areas, including children's playgrounds and the vicinity of schools and hospitals.
