Czech MP Resigns After Recording Business Videos Instead of Attending Committee Sessions

Czech parliamentarian Markéta Šichtařová resigned from her position after being caught recording promotional videos for her business instead of attending parliamentary committee meetings. The member of the far-right Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party also opposed proposed legislation regulating social media platforms. Opposition politicians mocked her departure on social media, suggesting she quit after discovering that parliamentary work actually required her to work. The SPD is a populist, anti-immigration party led by Tomio Okamura that has been part of the Czech opposition since entering parliament in 2017.
