Slovakia's Living Standard Growth Has Stalled, Says Budget Council Economist

Share:

Slovak households achieved historically highest net incomes last year, but this progress has now stalled and may reverse, according to Martin Šuster, a member of the Council for Budget Responsibility. The economist warns that Slovakia will either stagnate or see living standards decline due to increased taxes and social contributions that are reducing workers' net salaries. Šuster's previous statements about Slovakia experiencing its best period in history have been frequently cited by Prime Minister Robert Fico and other coalition politicians, but the economist now cautions against complacency with the current situation. The analysis highlights growing concerns about Slovakia's economic trajectory as fiscal measures implemented by the government begin to impact household incomes.
