Slovakia Plans Renovation of Mountain Pass as Brezno Bypass Remains Distant

Slovakia's state road authority is planning to renovate a well-known mountain pass, even as a long-awaited bypass around the central Slovak towns of Brezno and Podbrezová remains nowhere near completion. Residents of the area have described the current traffic situation as a serious ordeal, with heavy congestion continuing to affect everyday life in the towns. The bypass, which would divert transit traffic away from the built-up areas, has no clear timeline for construction. While the mountain pass renovation offers some improvement to the broader road network in the region, locals are frustrated that the more pressing infrastructure project — the bypass — has yet to advance.
