UNIFIL warns attacks near peacekeeping positions could trigger retaliatory fire

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned that attacks near its positions could provoke retaliatory fire after three peacekeepers were injured in an explosion at one of their bases in southern Lebanon on Friday. The UN peacekeeping mission, which monitors the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah along Lebanon's southern border, has faced increasing risks as tensions escalate in the region. UNIFIL operates under a mandate to maintain peace and security in southern Lebanon following the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, with peacekeepers from various contributing nations stationed at multiple positions throughout the area.
