Dobšiná Charity Helps Children Escape Cycle of Generational Poverty
A civic organization called Detstvo deťom (Childhood for Children) is working to help young people in Dobšiná, a small town in eastern Slovakia, break free from cycles of generational poverty. The group, whose teachers gained broader public attention after writing an open letter to Slovakia's education minister, provides support and opportunities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Dobšiná, like many communities in the region, faces persistent social challenges including high poverty rates and limited economic prospects, which can trap families in cycles of deprivation across multiple generations. The organization's efforts represent a grassroots response to these deep-rooted social inequalities, aiming to give children access to education and resources that might otherwise be out of reach.
