Sudeten Germans Hold First Official Convention in Czech Republic Amid Controversy

Share:

Sudeten Germans gathered this week in Brno for their first official convention in Czech Republic since their expulsion after World War II, commemorating a forced march during which hundreds of their ancestors died. The memorial event, taking place from Thursday, has sparked unprecedented controversy and opposition among local residents. While Sudeten Germans have visited the Czech Republic in previous years, this marks the first time they have held an official assembly on Czech soil. The Sudeten Germans were ethnic Germans living in the border regions of Czechoslovakia who were expelled en masse following Nazi Germany's defeat in 1945, as part of broader post-war population transfers across Central Europe.
