Hungary Seeks Pragmatic Relations with All Countries, Says Minister

Share:

Hungary wants to maintain pragmatic relationships with all countries and seeks to return to Europe and the European negotiating table, according to a Hungarian official. The same approach applies to the country's relationship with NATO, the minister stated. The comments come as Hungary, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party, has faced increasing isolation within European Union institutions over disputes regarding rule of law, democratic values, and foreign policy positions. Hungary has frequently clashed with EU partners over issues including judicial independence, media freedom, and its stance on the war in Ukraine. The statement suggests Hungary is seeking to repair its relationships within both the European Union and NATO alliance, where it has been at odds with partners over various policy positions. Hungary's return to mainstream European diplomacy would mark a significant shift from its recent confrontational approach toward EU institutions and Western allies.
