Panama Backs Slovakia's Bid for UN Security Council Seat
Share:
Slovakia has secured Panama's support for its candidacy to the United Nations Security Council, with the two countries formalizing the endorsement by signing a memorandum of understanding. The Security Council is the UN's most powerful body, responsible for matters of international peace and security, and non-permanent seats on it are highly sought after by member states. Slovakia is campaigning for one of the rotating non-permanent seats, which are filled through elections among UN member states grouped by regional bloc. Panama's backing represents a diplomatic win for Bratislava as it works to build the broad international support needed to secure election to the council.
