Armed gangs carried out a massacre in the central Haitian town of Petite Rivière de l'Artibonite, leaving dozens dead and homes burned in clashes with local vigilante groups. The Gran Grif gang was responsible for the violence, though authorities have not yet determined the exact death toll from the attack. Haiti has been plagued by escalating gang violence as criminal organizations have expanded their control over much of the country amid a prolonged political and security crisis. Many communities have formed self-defense groups to protect themselves as the government struggles to maintain order and provide basic security to citizens.
