Villages near Košice implement water restrictions as taps run dry despite unlimited supply in nearby city

Share:

Three small villages near Slovakia's second-largest city Košice have introduced strict water conservation measures during the first week of May, with residents sometimes finding nothing flowing from their taps despite unlimited water access just 20 minutes away in the city. The municipalities of Ruskov, Ďurkov, and Svinica restricted public water supply to essential uses only, including personal hygiene, while prohibiting non-essential consumption. The water shortage has become so severe that local authorities can immediately identify residents who fill swimming pools at night, highlighting the acute monitoring of water usage in these communities located in close proximity to Košice, where water access remains unrestricted.
