Mountain Chalet Named After Slovak National Hero Faces Uncertain Future

Share:

The future of the Chalet of Milan Rastislav Štefánika, an iconic mountain lodge located below Ďumbier peak in central Slovakia, is in jeopardy as its owner prepares to vote on terminating the current lease agreement. The Slovak Tourist Club (KST), which owns the facility, will hold an extraordinary general assembly in June to decide whether to cancel the rental contract with the current tenant, even though the agreement runs until 2030. The chalet is named after Milan Rastislav Štefánika, a key figure in Slovak history who helped establish Czechoslovakia after World War I and is considered one of Slovakia's founding fathers. Ďumbier is the highest peak in the Low Tatras mountain range, making the chalet a significant landmark for hikers and tourists visiting one of Slovakia's most popular mountain destinations.
