Churches in Damascus canceled Palm Sunday masses following a wave of violence in the Christian town of Sukaylabiya. Syrian armed forces intervened to halt the clashes that prompted the religious cancellations. The violence in Sukaylabiya, a predominantly Christian community, created security concerns that led church authorities in the capital to suspend the important pre-Easter services as a precautionary measure.
