Slovak Political Analysts Warn Against Loss of EU Funding
Slovak political commentators highlighted concerns about potential EU funding cuts during their weekly review of significant political developments. The analysts, including Petková, Štrasser, Šáteková and Čikovský, emphasized that if the European Union suspends eurofondy - EU structural funds that support Slovak development projects - no alternative funding from Russia (referred to as "rubľofondy" or ruble funds) would be sufficient to replace the lost resources. The warning comes amid ongoing tensions between Slovakia and EU institutions over various policy disagreements. EU structural funds represent a crucial source of financing for infrastructure, economic development, and social programs in Slovakia, which joined the European Union in 2004 and has been a major beneficiary of EU cohesion policy funding.
