Six members of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces were killed in a rocket attack in Iraq's Kurdistan region. Local authorities immediately blamed Iran for the attack and said ballistic missiles were used. The Peshmerga are the military forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government, an autonomous region in northern Iraq that has frequently been targeted by Iranian strikes against Kurdish opposition groups operating from Iraqi territory.
