A controlled explosion successfully demolished hazardous rock towers above Hrebienok in the High Tatras mountains on Monday, completing a critical safety operation. The blast was the second attempt to remove the unstable rock formations that posed a danger to the popular mountain area, and no further explosions will be needed. The High Tatras, Slovakia's premier mountain range and national park, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to areas like Hrebienok, a key tourist hub accessible by funicular railway from Starý Smokovec. The successful demolition clears the way for repairs to hiking trails in the area that were threatened by the unstable rock formations.
