Hungarian Government Minister Says Politics Has Moved Away From Intellectuals, Not Vice Versa

Hungarian Minister Gergely Gulyás defended his ruling Fidesz party against criticism that it has lost intellectual support, arguing instead that politics has distanced itself from intellectuals rather than the other way around. His comments come as Hungary prepares for parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12. Fidesz, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has faced growing criticism from academic and intellectual circles over its increasingly authoritarian policies and restrictions on media freedom and civil society organizations.
