Iran Selects New Supreme Leader Following Khamenei's Death in Airstrikes

Share:

Iran has chosen a new supreme leader following an extraordinary session of the Assembly of Experts on Sunday, though Tehran has not yet disclosed the identity of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's successor. The decision came exactly one week after Khamenei was killed in American-Israeli airstrikes. The Assembly of Experts, an 88-member clerical body, is constitutionally responsible for selecting Iran's supreme leader, who serves as the country's highest authority and ultimate decision-maker in the Islamic Republic's political system.
