Venezuela Releases 46 More Political Prisoners in Continuing Amnesty Campaign

Share:

Venezuela's government released 46 additional political prisoners as part of an ongoing amnesty program, according to interim leader Delcy Rodriguez. The freed prisoners were primarily employees of PDVSA, the state oil company, who had been charged with sabotage and corruption. The releases represent a continuation of the government's policy of reducing political repression following the January capture of President Nicolás Maduro by American forces. Rodriguez, who has assumed temporary leadership of the country, ordered the latest round of prisoner releases as Venezuela appears to be easing its crackdown on political opponents.
