Strong Earthquake Strikes Pacific Island Nation of Vanuatu

Share:

A powerful earthquake struck the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu, though no tsunami waves are threatening the region. The seismic event occurred in the Pacific Ocean near the archipelago, which is located northeast of Australia and consists of about 80 islands with a population of approximately 320,000 people. Vanuatu sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire, making it particularly susceptible to earthquakes and volcanic activity due to active tectonic plate boundaries in the region.
