Staal Wins Conn Smythe Trophy as Oldest NHL Playoff MVP

Eric Staal has been awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the NHL playoffs. At 37 years and 277 days old, Staal becomes the oldest recipient of the playoff MVP award, surpassing the previous record held by Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas, who won the trophy in 2011. The Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded annually to the player judged most valuable to his team during the Stanley Cup playoffs.
