Spain seeks to maintain positions on European Central Bank Executive Board

Share:

Spain is working to preserve its influence within the European Central Bank's Executive Board as leadership changes take place. Croatian central banker Boris Vujčič is set to replace Luis de Guindos, Spain's former economy minister who has served on the ECB's six-member Executive Board. The Executive Board, which includes the ECB president and vice president plus four other members, is responsible for implementing monetary policy decisions across the 20-country eurozone. Spain's efforts to maintain representation on this key institution reflect the importance of having national influence in European monetary policy decisions that affect economic conditions across member states.
