Abuse Survivor Warns Slovak State Fails to Protect Victims After Escaping Years of Violence

Share:

Barbora Majerová, a 27-year-old Zumba instructor from Banská Bystrica, has spoken out about surviving years of abuse and violence, warning that the Slovak state inadequately protects victims. Majerová endured sexual abuse by her stepfather at age five and later learned at 12 that her mother had never wanted her. When her biological father returned from prison, he effectively sold her to a 40-year-old man when she was 14, leading to a relationship she entered out of desperation. The case highlights ongoing concerns about Slovakia's support systems for domestic violence and abuse victims. Despite her traumatic past, Majerová now has two children and leads what she describes as a relatively normal life, though she continues to advocate for better victim protection measures in the country.
