Slovak Doctors Warn of Paralysis Risk from Children Diving into Unknown Waters

Medical experts at the National Institute for Children's Diseases (NÚDCH), Slovakia's leading pediatric hospital, are urging parents and children to exercise caution around water this summer, warning that diving or jumping into unfamiliar bodies of water can result in serious spinal injuries, including permanent paralysis. Doctors emphasize that children may misjudge water depth or fail to spot submerged obstacles, leading to head and neck impacts that can cause irreversible damage to the spinal cord. Alongside the diving warning, medical staff issued a series of broader summer safety recommendations aimed at reducing preventable injuries during the holiday season.
