Russia removes public access to court statistics, limiting monitoring of legal trends

Share:

Russia has removed public access to judicial statistics from the Supreme Court's website, eliminating data on criminal, civil, and administrative cases. The statistics section, which previously included information on treason cases and charges related to discrediting the military, is now empty when accessed through direct links. The move fits into a broader pattern of data suppression by Russian authorities, who have increasingly restricted access to information about the war in Ukraine, oil revenues, and demographic challenges. The removal of court statistics makes it significantly more difficult for researchers, journalists, and civil society organizations to monitor legal trends and track the judicial system's handling of political prosecutions.
