Slovak Medal of the Year 2025 Competition Reaches Record 27 Entries, Opens to Czech Artists
Slovakia's Medal of the Year competition, an annual award recognizing excellence in medallic art — the creation of artistic medals and plaques — is entering its fourth edition with a record 27 works submitted for consideration. For the first time, Czech medallists are joining the competition, expanding the event beyond its Slovak origins. The public can cast votes until the end of June 2026. The entries span a range of historical and cultural subjects, including works inspired by figures such as Pribina, a 9th-century Slavic prince considered a founding figure of early Slovak statehood, and Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia. The competition reflects growing interest in medallic art as a distinct artistic discipline in the region.
