Bratislava Opens First Phase of 'Living Square' Urban Renewal Project

Bratislava has unveiled the first completed section of its flagship urban renewal initiative known as 'Živé námestie' (Living Square), bringing a redesigned public space to the heart of the Slovak capital. The newly completed area encompasses the southern section of Poštová Street and the central portion of SNP Square — one of Bratislava's main public squares, named after the Slovak National Uprising of 1944. The renovated spaces feature new paving, greenery, benches, improved lighting, and water-retention measures designed to manage rainfall and reduce urban heat. SNP Square serves as a central gathering point in Bratislava's city centre, and the Living Square project represents a broader effort by city authorities to modernise and green the capital's public spaces. The remaining phases of the project are expected to follow as the full transformation of the area continues.
