Hungary Reverses Decision to Withdraw from International Criminal Court

Hungary's new government has withdrawn its plan to leave the International Criminal Court, reversing a decision that was scheduled to take effect on June 2. Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced the reversal on social media this week, abandoning the previous government's intention to end the country's membership in the international judicial body. The International Criminal Court, based in The Hague, prosecutes individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide when national courts are unable or unwilling to do so. Hungary's original withdrawal plan had been part of broader tensions between the previous government and international institutions over rule of law issues.
