Slovak Men Cite Financial Stress and Relationship Fears as Reasons Against Having Second Child

Share:

Nine Slovak fathers have shared their reasons for not wanting a second child, highlighting concerns about finances, demanding childcare responsibilities, and fears about relationship stability. Stanislav, a 32-year-old father who describes himself as actively involved in parenting, explained that despite loving his son and being grateful to be a father, he and his wife do not plan to have another child. He cited the difficult first year of parenthood as particularly challenging, describing it as "hell" and expressing fear about experiencing those difficulties again while caring for their existing child. The accounts reflect broader demographic challenges facing Slovakia, where birth rates have declined significantly in recent years, contributing to concerns about population aging and economic sustainability.
