Slovak Parliament Speaker Andrej Danko Gains Wedding Officiant Powers

Andrej Danko, Speaker of Slovakia's National Council parliament and leader of the Slovak National Party (SNS), has acquired the legal authority to perform wedding ceremonies. The development represents an expansion of ceremonial powers for the parliamentary speaker position. Danko's SNS is part of the ruling coalition alongside the social-democratic Smer-SD party and the populist Hlas party, which returned to power following elections in 2023. The new authority allows the parliament speaker to conduct civil marriage ceremonies, adding to the traditional ceremonial duties of the position.
