Polish lawmaker Romanowski's whereabouts unknown after leaving Budapest residence

Polish lawmaker Marcin Romanowski, who faces criminal charges, is no longer living at the Budapest apartment where he had resided since December 2024. The whereabouts of the embattled politician are currently unknown. Romanowski, a former deputy justice minister in Poland's previous conservative government, fled to Hungary in December after Polish prosecutors sought his arrest on corruption charges related to the misuse of European Union funds. The case has created diplomatic tensions between Poland's current pro-EU government and Hungary, whose Prime Minister Viktor Orbán granted Romanowski political asylum, claiming he was being persecuted for political reasons.
