Slovak Nutritionist Pushes Back on Viral Claims That Broccoli Is Toxic

Share:

A misleading video claiming that broccoli is toxic to humans has been circulating widely on Slovak social media, prompting a nutritional expert to publicly correct the record. The video alleges that two compounds found in broccoli — glucosinolate and sulforaphane — are dangerous to human health. Nutrition educator Boris Bajer shared a response on social media, and expert Gajdošová described the claims as both dramatic and misleading. Sulforaphane, far from being harmful, is a naturally occurring compound in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli that has been widely studied for potential health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties. Glucosinolates are similarly common plant compounds that break down into various substances during digestion and are not considered dangerous at normal dietary levels. Experts emphasize that the viral content misrepresents established nutritional science and could unnecessarily discourage healthy eating habits.
