Bratislava Zoo Welcomes Gelada Baboons for First Time in Slovakia

Share:

Bratislava Zoo has acquired six gelada baboons, a species never previously kept in Slovakia. The arrival marks a unique addition to the zoo's collection, as geladas — sometimes called bleeding-heart baboons due to a distinctive red patch on their chests — are native to the highlands of Ethiopia and are the only primates that feed primarily on grass. The new animals represent a first for the country's zoological institutions.
