Bratislava's Staromestská Square Project Remains in Planning Phase

The ambitious plan to cover a busy roadway and create a unified historic center plaza in Bratislava remains in the design phase more than two years after its initial presentation. The Bratislava city government first unveiled the Staromestská Square project in May 2022, proposing to bridge over the heavily trafficked street to reconnect the divided historic district. The project aims to restore the continuity of Bratislava's Old Town by creating a pedestrian plaza above the current roadway, which currently splits the historic center. Despite the significant time that has passed since the proposal was announced, the project has yet to advance beyond the preliminary planning and design stages.
