Slovak Adoption Expert: Children in Small Country Have Minimal Chance of Not Learning They Were Adopted

Share:

Dana Koníček Žilinčíková, a social counselor and supervisor at the civic association Návrat, emphasized that adopted children in Slovakia have almost no chance of remaining unaware of their adoption status due to the country's small size. Návrat is an organization that advocates for and supports the return of abandoned children from institutions to families. The comments came in response to reflections by an adoptive father who wrote about his nine-year experience raising an adopted child and the questions facing the second half of his child's childhood. The discussion highlights ongoing challenges faced by adoptive families in Slovakia, where the close-knit nature of communities makes maintaining adoption privacy nearly impossible.
