Kosovo Constitutional Court Rejects Presidential Decree to Dissolve Parliament

Share:

Kosovo's Constitutional Court rejected a decree issued by President Vjosa Osmani earlier this month that would have dissolved the country's parliament. The presidential order would have triggered Kosovo's third parliamentary elections in just over a year, adding to the political instability that has plagued the Balkan nation. The Constitutional Court, which serves as the highest judicial authority on matters of constitutional law in Kosovo, determined that the dissolution decree did not meet legal requirements. Kosovo has experienced significant political turbulence since declaring independence from Serbia in 2008, with frequent government changes and electoral cycles undermining institutional stability in the young European state.
