Russian Drones Repeatedly Fly Over Chernobyl, Ukrainian President Warns

Share:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of nuclear terrorism as he marked the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. The Ukrainian leader warned that Russian drones are repeatedly flying over the Chernobyl nuclear site, claiming that Moscow's attacks are once again bringing the world to the brink of catastrophe. Zelenskyy's warning comes as concerns grow over the security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine during the ongoing conflict. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant was the site of the world's worst nuclear accident on April 26, 1986, when a reactor explosion and fire released radioactive materials across much of Europe. The plant, located in northern Ukraine near the Belarus border, was captured by Russian forces early in the 2022 invasion and has remained a flashpoint for concerns about nuclear safety during the war.
