Babiš Asks Czech Parliament Not to Lift His Immunity from Criminal Prosecution

Share:

Andrej Babiš, the former Czech Prime Minister and leader of the opposition ANO movement, asked Czech lawmakers not to lift his parliamentary immunity to allow criminal prosecution to proceed against him. In his speech to parliament, Babiš criticized former Chief Prosecutor Pavel Zeman, who renewed the criminal proceedings, and expert witness Vítězslav Hálek, who wrote an assessment in his case and whom Babiš called a fraud. The request relates to ongoing criminal proceedings against the billionaire politician and media owner, who served as Prime Minister from 2017 to 2021 and remains a dominant figure in Czech politics through his populist ANO party.
