Russia Embraces Campaign to Purge Foreign Words From Language

Share:

Russia has launched an aggressive campaign to eliminate foreign words from its language, replacing Western terminology with Russian equivalents as part of broader efforts to distance itself from Western influence. The initiative, dubbed "Machalov syndrome" by critics, seeks to remove not just American and Western cultural references but also technical and commercial terminology that has entered Russian vocabulary. However, the campaign faces practical challenges as the Russian language lacks sufficient native alternatives for many modern concepts, particularly in technology and business sectors.
