Psychologist: Sex and Love Don't Always Have to Go Together
A casual sexual encounter can be an enjoyable and empowering experience for some people, while for others it may bring uncertainty, disappointment, or emotional confusion, according to psychologist Sára Kratochvílová. In an interview, Kratochvílová explored why people seek no-strings-attached sexual relationships and why such arrangements work well for certain individuals while others find themselves becoming emotionally attached despite their original intentions. She noted that the number of sexual partners a person has does not, on its own, reveal anything about their psychological health or character, challenging common social assumptions that link casual sex to emotional instability or moral failings. The conversation reflects a broader shift in how mental health professionals approach discussions of sexuality, emphasizing individual context and emotional self-awareness over prescriptive norms about how sex and romantic love should relate to one another.
