Slovakia May Receive Only Fragments of Compensation for Military Equipment Donations Due to Insufficient EU Fund
Slovakia faces the prospect of receiving minimal compensation for donating Soviet-era MiG fighter jets and S-300 air defense systems to Ukraine, as the European Peace Facility fund lacks sufficient resources to cover accumulated claims from member states. While Hungary had previously blocked the mechanism designed to reimburse countries for military aid to Ukraine, claims from various EU nations continued to accumulate even during the blockade period. The European Peace Facility was established to compensate EU member states that provide military equipment to Ukraine, but the growing gap between available funds and submitted claims threatens to leave countries like Slovakia with far less reimbursement than expected for their significant military contributions to Ukraine's defense efforts.
