Deaf Roma Man Detained for 48 Hours Without Water or Explanation, Says Advocate

A deaf Roma man was held in a police detention cell for 48 hours without water and without being told why he was detained, according to Tomáš Dunko from the organization Svet ticha (World of Silence), who was called to the police station to provide sign language interpretation. Dunko, who is himself a deaf Roma man, works to help people in marginalized communities, particularly those with hearing disabilities. The case highlights systemic neglect of vulnerable populations within Slovakia's criminal justice system, where deaf individuals often lack access to proper communication support during police procedures.
