Slovakia Plans to Ban Commercial Dog and Cat Breeding Operations by 2027

Slovakia's agriculture ministry is preparing legislation to prohibit commercial dog and cat breeding facilities, commonly known as puppy and kitten mills. The proposed amendment to existing animal welfare laws would take effect in 2027, according to Agriculture Minister Richard Takáč. The move targets large-scale commercial breeding operations that are often criticized for poor animal welfare conditions and prioritizing profit over the health and well-being of animals.
